Brinsworth Manor Infant School

Year 2

                                                              Ball skills:

Linking back to the national curriculum the children have become increasingly confident within their fundamental movement skills when throwing and catching a bean bag and ball. This has been done progressively using the under-arm, over-arm, bounce, chest and shoulder pass, all while using the correct techniques throughout. Children have then progressed these abilities in regards to hand-eye coordination, by aiming towards specific targets using different shapes and sized balls. Above skills was then put into fun games adding an element of competition, focusing on how we act when winning and the acceptance of loosing. These skills can be later used and recapped within competitive game like situations in a variety of sports.

                                           Attacking and defending: Basketball

Basketball is a team sport that involves two teams of five active players each trying to score points against one another by throwing a ball through a high hoop (the 'basket') under strict rules. It is played on both indoor and outdoor courts.

Children will start to learn how to master basic movements and develop balance, agility and co-ordination when learning how to dribble, intercept, tackle, defend and shoot. Children will also begin to apply these in small sided games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending when engaging in competitive (both against self and against others) games and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.
