Outdoor Learning and Forest School

Taking the curriculum outdoors can have a considerably beneficial impact on the learning and development of children. From enhancing problems solving skills to communication and resilience, outdoor learning provides endless opportunities for exploration, experimentation and contextual learning. Not to mention the physical aspects of simply being in the outdoors! The children are encouraged to get muddy, explore the woodland and discover what their natural environment has to offer.

We are blessed with wonderfully large grounds, filled with endless possibilities for outdoor learning. From discovering and looking after wildlife in our pond, bug hotel, or bird boxes, to expanding our imagination in our fairy garden and willow dome; the children observe the seasonal changes in their natural environment, leading to peer discussion, communication and development of language.

We ask that children have a pair of wellies or suitable shoes and a spare change of clothes including pumps in school at all times so that we can make the most of our environment in all weathers.

As well as encouraging Outdoor learning through all of our Curriculum subjects we also have a trained Forest school Practitioner who delivers forest school sessions and supports staff to deliver Forest school activities with their classes. We intend to give children an understanding of the importance of conservation of habitats and inspire children to take responsibility of caring for them.
