Governors

The Role of a Governor

School governors are people from the school/local community who want to make a positive contribution to children’s education. They must be aged 18 or over at the time of their appointment. They are elected to serve on the governing board for a set period of time.

Governors come from all different backgrounds and all have various knowledge and experience needed to help the Head Teacher make the right decisions for the school. Together they are known as the governing board.

Governors have an important part to play in raising school standards through their three key roles of setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability and monitoring and evaluating school performance.
