NSPCC Number Day

February 2024

We celebrated Number Day with a range of activities in school.

Our Foundation classes completed challenges linked to Fiona Five dressed in their sports gear.  They stayed active in Fiona Five's gym - running 5 laps round the climbing wall, bouncing a ball on a racket 5 times and doing the hula hoop 5 times.  They explored 5 new fruits and compared them by height, mass and size.  Children also explored fruits within a 5 frame - 1 piece in each square, making sure the five frame is full and looking at repeating patterns too.  Finally they created healthy eating posters - practising their fine motor skills to choose and cut out 5 fruits and vegetables to remind people to eat 5 a day.

Our Key Stage 1 children (Years 1 and 2) came dressed as a digit.  They moved around 5 activities throughout the afternoon.

They were active in the hall doing different numbers of movements.  Children had a session singing and moving to a variety of number songs with actions (Check out the BBC Supermovers website).  Our children voted on a selection of maths-themed story books and shared the most popular story choice. They created buildings using different 3D shapes and construction kits just like our hero Iggy Peck!  Children also created a Tower of Ten revisiting the number facts for 10 and using Numicon to support them.  (More photos to follow)

Number Sense

Our KS1 classes have started the year learning Number Sense using a programme that we teach daily.  Here is an overview of the number facts that we will cover throughout Key Stage One.
