History

Spring 2022

What is an explorer?’

The children will look at a variety of explorers and investigate things like where they went, what they did, and what they discovered.  This will lead on to a focus on the significant individual Christopher Columbus and who he was.

Pupils should be taught about:

The lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. Some should be used to compare aspects of life in different periods [for example, Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria, Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong, William Caxton and Tim Berners-Lee, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and LS Lowry, Rosa Parks and Emily Davison, Mary Seacole and/or Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavell]

Autumn 2022

The children will be exploring significant figures in history with a close focus on William Caxton and Alexander Bell.  The children will aim to learn about the importance of these figures and what they achieved in their life times.  There will be an introduction to the historical discipline of chronology as they sequence the events in the lives of these figures.
