Communication and Language

We communicate with each other all day, every day! We support the children's language development through daily interactions through play and focused carpet and circle times.

We explicitly teach new vocabulary linked to our learning and each week have a "sticky sentence" to help us talk about and explain our learning to others.

There are two main aspects within Communication and Language which we focus on with the children.

Listening, Attention and Understanding – We focus on developing our listening skills and begin to understanding why listening is important. We engage in lots of story times together to develop our listening skills and build familiarity and understanding.

Speaking – We support children to articulate our thoughts and ideas in well formed sentences, and ask appropriate questions to clarify their understanding. We focus on retelling familiar stories, including some direct repetition, and sometimes using their own words.
