Help with learning to blend

Your child will start learning to blend orally when they put the sounds they hear together to blend and say a word.

If we say: Can you pat your t-u-m? and your child says tum and starts to pat their tummy then we know your child is starting to orally blend.

The next step is for your child to learn to recognise the first Set 1 alphabet letter sounds and then be able to read short words containing these letters. The first sounds that your child will learn are: m   a   s   d   t

Once they have learnt these letters then they can start to learn how to blend and read words like: mat, sat, mad, sad.

Watch the video below to help gain further knowledge about how you can help to support your child with learning how to blend and read words.
